A balm sits on your lips. A conditioner is made to nourish them. Our sun, wind and air-conditioning can leave lips feeling dry and tight, and what you reach for makes a real difference. Here is how a lip conditioner differs from a balm, and why we make ours with olive oil from our family grove.

What is a lip conditioner?

A lip conditioner does the same job as a lip balm, but the focus is on nourishing your lips rather than just coating them. Many balms rely on waxes and petroleum-based ingredients that sit on top of the skin. A conditioner is built around rich plant oils that help soften and moisturise, so your lips feel comfortable for longer, not just for the next ten minutes.

Why olive oil?

Olive oil has been used on skin for thousands of years, and for good reason. It's naturally rich in fatty acids and antioxidants such as vitamin E and squalene, which help skin hold on to moisture. It's gentle, it absorbs well, and it leaves lips feeling soft rather than sticky or waxy.

Our olive oil is cold-pressed from our family grove at Myponga Beach in South Australia. Dad planted those trees, and every batch of OOLUX starts there.

Is olive oil good for your lips?

Yes. Olive oil is one of the kindest oils you can put on your lips. It's especially good if you:

• have dry or chapped lips that don't respond to wax-heavy balms
• prefer natural, simple ingredients
• have sensitive skin and want to avoid added fragrance

We make two versions, both with our olive oil:

ZERO Lip Conditioner – completely fragrance free. It's our pick for sensitive lips, kids, and anyone who just wants pure, simple hydration.

Pure Peppermint Lip Conditioner – the same nourishing base with a fresh, cooling hint of peppermint. Lovely for a morning pick-me-up or after a day outdoors.

How to get the most from your lip conditioner

• Apply a thin layer first thing in the morning and again before bed.
• Reapply after eating, drinking or swimming.
• Keep one in your bag, car and bedside drawer so it's always within reach.
• In summer, pair it with a hat and shade; in winter, apply before heading out into the wind.
